Google Sites vs Weebly

A comparison of Google Sites and Weebly. Which one is better and why?

Weebly and Google Sites are both WYSIWYG website creators. In this artical, I will compare the two: weebly.com and sites.google.com

Okay, I don’t want to take to long on this… but here I go.

I’ve used both Google Sites and Weebly for at least a month each. I know all the differences and will be discussing them here.

Google Sites really had me happy with it’s incredible speed and simplicity. Even the newbiest of the newbs can create a decent website with Google. Weebly however takes time to learn and can be pretty sluggish. I also loved how Google Sites allows users to easily change backgrounds and rearrange things on the page with ease. It also has a built in EDIT HTML button so more experience users can have a bit more control. I also like how users can update the site in seconds. But sadly, Google seems to be very strict. Users are not allowed to upload executable files or run scripts. Anything that could even be considered harmful is not allowed. This became very annoying when I wanted to use the website for file sharing. There are also no features for guests to leave comments and there are no forum features. If we want that, we are expected to use the required HTML (if it’s not dangerous, that is). Another thing: Google’s domain name that is given to us is very long: www.sites.google.com/sites/yourwebsitehere while Weebly’s is www.yourwebsitehere.weebly.com which is easier to remember. And finally, Google gives us no way to contact them for help. But Weebly allows us to easily go into their forums and ask a question or email them directly.

Going back to Weebly, they give more flexibility… like a real website. We are allowed to customize the entire page through HTML and can even drop pieces of code onto the page without having to search through and edit the entire *.html document. Which is very nice. And we are given the ability to add small forums, turn our site into a real domain (at low cost) and many more features! But what I really like is how Weebly pages look a lot more professional than Google’s.

So, which is better? In my opinion, Weeblywins out. Some will disagree though. If you are making a personal site for small reasons (like a School presentation) then I say go with Google. If you plan on having your website grow and flourish for years to come, Weebly is your best bet. Take a look below to see which website builder is better in different areas.
